Effective June 15th, 2026, BMO Insurance is pleased to introduce SmartDecision, powered by VUE (Virtual Underwriting Engine) to deliver real time underwriting decisions in SmartApp.
For qualifying, healthy clients, underwriting decisions that traditionally took days or weeks can now be delivered in minutes as part of the SmartApp process — helping you close business faster, reduce friction, and get paid sooner.
SmartDecision offers:
quicker processing for applications eligible for instant underwriting decisions, and
more time for our experienced human underwriters to focus on your more complex cases.
Building on the success of SmartApp, SmartDelivery, and Rovr AI, SmartDecision is the next step in BMO Insurance’s digital transformation journey to support our advisors‘ sales process.
Why SmartDecision matters:
1.
Speed without compromise
You can be confident that our automated underwriting decisions delivered at the point-of-sale helps simplify the process for Canadians to get insured faster.
2.
Industry leading coverage amounts
Instant decisions are available on coverage amounts up to $5 million across our Term Life, Universal Life and Whole Life products. Aligned with BMO Insurance’s full Accelerated Underwriting limits, SmartDecision significantly exceeds competing point of sale solutions.
3.
Flexibility built for every sales model & client preference
Supports both face-to-face and non-face-to-face sales, to meet the needs of advisors and clients. Choose between completion of the SmartDecision insurability questionnaire as part of the application process, for an instant underwriting decision, or completion of the questionnaire later via a Dynacare tele-interview.
4.
Intelligence that works in the background
Complexity stays behind the scenes, so advisor and client interactions stay simple.
In addition to SmartDecision, this SmartApp release also includes the following enhancements:
1.
All Universal Life details, including planned payment amount and fund allocations are now captured in the SmartApp, eliminating the need for a signed UL Supplementary Questionnaire to be submitted with a SmartApp.
2.
Assignment of the Policy ID at the beginning of the SmartApp process and the elimination of the Application ID, contributing to streamlined case processing.
Be sure to reference this policy ID when ordering requirements from service providers to ensure efficient downstream processing.
3.
Automatic inclusion of the Life Insurance Replacement Declaration (LIRD) form in the eSign package on replacement applications in provinces other than Quebec.
Replacement applications in Quebec should attach the signed Quebec form for submission with the application.
4.
Enhanced processing automation.
When you submit a SmartApp, it’s automatically routed to underwriting — or straight to policy issue if the SmartDecision is approved — helping you move business forward faster.
