Unlike mutual funds, ETFs are bought and sold on a stock exchange the same way as a regular stock. One of the main differences between ETFs and individual stocks traded on an exchange is that the outstanding ETF shares can be increased or reduced as needed, which allows the ETF to be valued at or near NAV.
